Editorial Assignment Feedback Forum...

I'd like to get some feedback from you all on the recent editorial assignments. Please answer the following few questions BY WED 1/11/06.

1. What did you learn from this assignment?
2. How can we improve our writing brainstorm and research methods? Name two suggestions.
3. Did you think the peer-editing workshop was helpful? Name two ways we can improve peer-editing in our class.
4. Did you enjoy reading your peers' editorials online? Did you enjoy reading the comments others had left about your editorial? How would you change this aspect of the assignment for the future?
5. Did you find the one-on-one student-teacher conferences helpful? Name one thing you learned from our conference that you will now do to improve your writing.
6. Any additional comments?

Thanks!
Ms. Carlough

Hello class!

For homework (due Monday, 12/19), please compose a "Letter to the Editor" in response to your classmates' editorials (many of which I have posted on the class web site*). I'd like you to discuss one part of their editorial that you agree with (and WHY) and one part that could have been more convincing (and WHY, what evidence could have been included to make that point better?).

Here's an example. This parts (in parantheses will be your additions/opinions):

"Dear Editor,

I found (name's) editorial on (subject) very (adjective).

I really agree with their point that (what you agree with) because (WHY).

I wasn't really convinced, however, that (what you disagree with). I was left wondering (what you were left wondering) and if the author had included some information on (additional evidence you thought was missing) their point would have been better argued.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME.

*If your editorial didn't appear on the web site, it's either because I didn't receive a final copy yet from you (send to slcarlough@yahoo.com!) or because you hand wrote it using both sides of a loose leaf page, and the text was unreadable upon scanning.

I have some fun stuff planned... But for now, enjoy yourselves, be safe, and read something interesting! Write a holiday poem! Welcome! This forum will allow us to extend our great class discussions and discoveries outside of Room 8. Every other week, I will post my reactions, comments, and questions from one of our classes on this blog. It will be your homework over the next two days to log on and reply, commenting about your own reactions or different points of view.

To get us started: What did you think of the "Self-Made Me" poem assignment? Did you learn anything about yourself, who you were and who you have become? Did you think the peer-editing workshop was helpful? Did you enjoy the Read-Around? What would you recommend I change if I were to use this assignment in future classes?
